Policies, Ethics & Code of Practice:

I am an Accredited member of the BACP and follow the BACP  Ethical Framework for Good Practice in all of my counselling work.

I follow ACTO Professional Conduct & Code of Ethics during all online work.

All Be U policies are available to view during your initial consultation. If you have any questions regarding these please ask.

Confidentiality:
Any information shared during sessions is confidential, unless something a person tells me suggests they or someone they know is at risk (please see the Be U confidentiality & safeguarding policies for more details).

Supervision:
All counsellors are required to have supervision, this is where my supervisor and I consider how I am working and think together about situations related to my work.

An introduction to the different counselling methods

In the counselling room:
This is face to face work in a safe, secure room where there are always age appropriate resources, a choice of creative activities, art, games, books, and of course there is also talking. The availability and engagement with dialogue during activities in counselling sessions can sometimes help children, young people or adults process uncomfortable or confusing emotions without it feeling intrusive or overwhelming.

Online counselling:
To engage in online services you would need to be aged 13  years or above and the appropriateness of this servce according to circumstances would need to be considered. Any young person under 16 years would be required to gain consent from their legal Guardian before work can begin.

Live chat via a secure server
This is where  sessions are booked (usually weekly) and we type instant messages to each other.  Sessions last for up to 45 minutes for young people and 50 minutes for adults. The direction would again be yours, however I would need to ask some questions along the way to help explore and understand how things are for you. Confidentiality and ethics remain the same as other methods of counselling.

Video chat via a secure server:
These are  sessions where we can see & talk to each other via web cam. This is very similar to face to face counselling and sessions last for up to 45 minutes for young people and 50 minutes for adults. These sessions can be useful when people can’t get to one of my counselling venues for an appointment. Appointments are booked in advance and are usually weekly. Confidentiality and ethics remain the same as other methods of counselling.
